Finally, the waiting and anticipation is over. Verizon has started pushing OS 5.0.0.328 to BlackBerry Desktop Manager for all Storm owners to install 24 minutes after we leaked it. If you haven’t gotten the alert already it’s time to fire up BlackBerry Desktop Manager Software (you too Mac users!) and see if it’s there waiting for you. It’s now up at http://vzw.smithmicro.com/blackberry/ as well.

OS 5.0 brings with it some significant changes to the OS and should correct a lot of issues some of you were having with your BlackBerry Storm 9530′s and being an official OS you can load it without any worries of running beta software. Already got it loaded up? What do you think of it? How is it working for you? Let us know in the forums or in the comments. Now the question remains. How long will it be before we see other carriers hop on board and start releasing 5.0 for other devices?

The application to me really is one of those “must have” apps that a power user needs. Aside from being a great file explorer for your device, the multiple functions built-in are great, being able to zip/unzip files directly on device and email them is great, being able to create playlists, edit file attributes, search and do so much more is great.

It hands-down beats RIM’s built-in file explorer, and good news– BBFileScount has been updated to version 1.0 and is now no longer a beta application, so go grab it today. It’s donationware, so really it costs you exactly what you think the app is worth to you but be fair folks, this really is agreat application. If you use it, donate, and hopefully more great apps will get made this way. And if you haven’t figured it out yet… yes, I think BBFileScount is GREAT.

Wanting to give OS 5.0 for the BlackBerry Bold or Curve 8900 another go? The last we posted in the blogs on OS 5.0 it was version 5.0.0.93 that was available, but now 5.0.0.100 has popped up in the wild for these same devices. CrackBerry junkies may want to give this newer version a download and install (download for Bold; for Curve 8900, but keep in mind that many of your existing apps may not yet work properly with this newer OS (BlackBerry JDE 5.0 is now available to developers, so the apps should catch up with the OS quick). I should also point out here that I set up a new blog post category for “BlackBerry OS” so you can always/easily find the list of recent unofficial OSs that have been blogged about.

*OS Disclaimer – Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you’re comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base – do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). Follow the links below for more information and instructions. *
