BlackBerry 9800 for AT&T fully exposed!

Posted by admin On June - 29 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

We’ve just been sent a mother lode of shots of RIM’s upcoming BlackBerry 9800 — a phone whose market name is still unknown — but whether it’s called the Bold, the Torch, or something else altogether, we think we’re looking at near-final hardware here. The software is identified as version 0.9, but you can clearly tell from the UI that it’s running BlackBerry 6 with an ever-so-slightly refined look and subtle 3D elements missing from prior releases. This particular phone is AT&T-branded, and it starts up with a carrier logo screen that proudly proclaims the 9800 a world phone — sure enough, the About screen shows support for WCDMA bands I, II, V, and VI, which means you’ll be able to use the phone for 3G Read the rest of this entry »

BlackBerry Curve 9300 prototype gets handled on video

Posted by admin On June - 29 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

BlackBerry lovers, are you sitting at home on a Friday night itching for the latest device scoop? Or out but glued to your screen checking news sites in between BBM relays? Looks like TechnoBuffalo (with a little help from Negri Electronics) has you covered: hands-on time with the Curve 9300. This prototype 8500 replacement has T-Mobile UK bands and is actually working (although with OS 5 at the moment). Compared with its predecessor, the keyboard is apparently improved, the Read the rest of this entry »

British garbage collectors to get 1,500 BlackBerrys

Posted by admin On May - 24 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

First it was the rozzers, now British bin men are getting BlackBerrys as part of their job equipment pack. Biffa, a private garbage collection firm responsible for cleaning up 25 local authorities around the UK, has agreed a £1.7 million ($2.44 million) deal with Vodafone for the provision of some 1,500 BlackBerry handsets along with dongles and 3G data cards. This somewhat curious capital investment has been made in order to allow drivers to download maps, collect data from Read the rest of this entry »

BlackBerry Bold 9800 pics

Posted by admin On May - 24 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

You might’ve been intrigued by the previous show of the BlackBerry Bold 9800 slider, but this new series of images blows those all out of water. The Berry Fix has a plethora of pics for your perusal, chief among them a showing of the virtual keyboard to complement the physical QWERTY. We gotta say, every announce of good design sense lost on the 9670 must have been spent on this guy; we’re really intrigued by this one. If that wasn’t enough, we’ve got two more details that’ll Read the rest of this entry »

BlackBerry Bold 9800 slider

Posted by admin On May - 18 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

We’ve still got thousands of unanswered questions (well, maybe not thousands, but definitely dozens) about RIM’s upcoming BlackBerry 6 platform — and it’s starting to look like we might be answering those questions at retail by way of this Bold 9800 slider that’s been making the rounds lately. BGR claims that the handset is lining up for a mid- to late-June release on AT&T, with the carrier having placed a substantial million-plus unit order to lock it up as an exclusive for some undetermined length of time (much as Verizon has managed to do both with the Storm and the Storm2). We hate to point out the obvious, but from a PR perspective, June’s not the best month to be announcing and / or releasing anything that Read the rest of this entry »

Sprint BlackBerry Bold 9650 goes on sale

Posted by admin On May - 18 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

It looks like Sprint couldn’t wait to share its version of the BlackBerry Bold 9650 with the world — it went on sale online today, a week before its scheduled May 23rd launch. You’re looking at $199 on a two-year deal, but unless you’re dying for a new ‘berry we can’t say we’re finding this Tour-with-an-optical-pad even remotely as exciting as the EVO 4G, which is due on June 4. But it’s still quite handsome, right? That’s… something.

Sprint gets BlackBerry Bold 9650: $200 on contract, ships May 23

Posted by admin On April - 27 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

We suspected that both Sprint and Verizon Wireless would eventually pick up RIM’s hot-off-of-the-press BlackBerry Bold 9650, and sure enough, the former has already come forward with a glowing press release stating as much. Starting on May 23rd (that’s just under a month, for those operating sans any sense of time), Sprint loyalists will be able to score this very smartphone for $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate and 2-year contract. It’ll reportedly be available in “all Sprint sale Read the rest of this entry »

RIM’s BlackBerry Mobile Voice System 5

Posted by admin On April - 27 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Though the Bold 9650 and Pearl 3G are clearly the big announcements out of Orlando at RIM’s WES conference this morning, there was a third bit of news in the mix, too — with a decidedly heavier enterprise slant, that is. BlackBerry Mobile Voice System 5 extends the existing product with SIP support, allowing calls to transition seamlessly between cellular and WiFi networks. What’s more, it’ll work on pretty much any open WiFi hotspot (subject to enterprise policy, we’re Read the rest of this entry »

BlackBerry Bold 9650 announced

Posted by admin On April - 27 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

RIM has a longstanding track record of refining its hardware with near-surgical precision — from one generation of BlackBerry to the next, you almost always see a very careful, deliberate evolution, from the Storm2′s revamped SurePress tech to the Bold 9700′s optical pad and countless examples in between. “Evolution” is exactly how we’d describe the CDMA- and GSM-equipped Bold 9650, the Tour’s spiritual successor that ditches the old name to join forces with the remainder of the Bold line. Dimensionally, the Bold 9650 is a dead ringer for the Tour — it’s still 4.4 x 2.4 x 0.56 inches — but it packs on two-tenths of an ounce worth of weight in exchange for oft-requested WiFi support and an extra 256MB of internal storage Read the rest of this entry »

BlackBerry Pearl 3G revealed: two keypad styles and 802.11n WiFi

Posted by admin On April - 27 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

As smartphones go, the original BlackBerry Pearl 8100 series’ longevity is nothing short of astounding — with some minor tweaks, the phone has lasted essentially unchanged for well over three years. Needless to say, it’s time for the granddaddy of consumer-grade BlackBerrys to start collecting pension, so it’s an awfully good thing that RIM has chosen its WES conference this week to announce the all-new Pearl 3G. Rumored as the Pearl 9100, the phone becomes RIM’s very first with 802.11n WiFi support (in addition to 802.11b and g, naturally) and features a 3.2 megapixel camera, 256MB of internal storage with microSD expansion up to 32GB, GPS, triband HSDPA with quadband GSM / EDGE, and a 360 x 400 display.
