BlackBerry lovers, are you sitting at home on a Friday night itching for the latest device scoop? Or out but glued to your screen checking news sites in between BBM relays? Looks like TechnoBuffalo (with a little help from Negri Electronics) has you covered: hands-on time with the Curve 9300. This prototype 8500 replacement has T-Mobile UK bands and is actually working (although with OS 5 at the moment). Compared with its predecessor, the keyboard is apparently improved, the side buttons more flush with the device, and there are a few cosmetic differences as you can notice in the picture above. Video after the break… now get on with your evening, k?

If you thought RIM had completely run out of ways to mildly remix its existing portrait QWERTY formula, think again — the transition from trackball to optical pad has opened up a whole new world of exciting opportunities, and it looks like the venerable Curve 8900 might be the next model to get the refresh. BerryReview appears to have scored a shot of the alleged 8910 in its most natural environment — a desk calendar — preserving the Curve series’ typical broken-up keyboard style (as

opposed to the connected keys you see in the Bold line). Otherwise we don’t really know much, but naturally, the new model is said to be running BlackBerry OS 5.0 under the hood (in other words, it’ll look pretty much like every other BlackBerry you’ve used in recent memory). More on this puppy as we get it.

Update: Unwired View points out that there’s a Bluetooth SIG certification for an 8910, so this is all lining up pretty nicely, isn’t it?

Listen, we feel your pain, we know you’ve been dying to find another use for your REDFLY Mobile Companion, and while we’re not sure this is it, at least you’ve got another thing you can tell your friends when justifying the purchase. Celio Corp’s announced it’ll be bringing BlackBerry support to the Companion C8N and C7 as a free update in mid-Q4 of this year. It works via either physical cable or Bluetooth, and at this point supports Bold 9000, Curve 8900, and Tour 9630, with more phones promised as they’re released. Crackberry’s managed to obtain a video demonstration, which is after the break if you’re interested. It’s okay if you’re not, we understand.

Hot on the heels of the word that RIM’s BlackBerry Curve 8520 would be heading for Vodaphone in the UK, Pocket Lint’s gotten a hold of one. The optical trackball-boasting, entry-level non-3G darling looks pretty brilliant in the photos, despite its stripped down form factor. Pocket Lint is also reporting that it’ll be Vodaphone-bound in August, and it’ll also be available through Orange for pre-paid deals and from Carphone Warehouse where it’ll be offered in violet. Now that, we’ll admit, we’re kind of interested in.

The 8520 (or Gemini, as it’s also known) is T-Mobile-bound in the US of A, most likely on August 5th. There’s another shot after the break — hit the read link for the full set.

Chrome for the BlackBerry Storm 9530, 9500 and Curve 8900. Indeed, you can now wrap your phone in pure reflection. A bright mirrored surface may say to you “fabulous – I am looking good” or it may go another way entirely and conjure images of sweet chromed rims – either way, the Case-Mate Barely There Chrome gives you just what you want. This departure from the classic Barely There case covers the back and corners of your phone, allowing it to remain out of harm’s way, while enhancing it with 360º of mirrored awesomeness that’s always worth a second look.

Wanting to give OS 5.0 for the BlackBerry Bold or Curve 8900 another go? The last we posted in the blogs on OS 5.0 it was version 5.0.0.93 that was available, but now 5.0.0.100 has popped up in the wild for these same devices. CrackBerry junkies may want to give this newer version a download and install (download for Bold; for Curve 8900, but keep in mind that many of your existing apps may not yet work properly with this newer OS (BlackBerry JDE 5.0 is now available to developers, so the apps should catch up with the OS quick). I should also point out here that I set up a new blog post category for “BlackBerry OS” so you can always/easily find the list of recent unofficial OSs that have been blogged about.

*OS Disclaimer – Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you’re comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base – do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). Follow the links below for more information and instructions. *
